St. Paul Community Shlicha (Israeli Emissary)
Ris Arbel is St. Paul's Young Shlicha, (emissary) from Israel. This 24-year-old is coming to us from her home in Kfar Tavor, in the Lower Galilee which is in St. Paul's Partnership 2Gether region in Israel. She is excited to be joining our Jewish community here in St. Paul.
Two years ago, Ris enjoyed a summer at Camp Ramah of Wisconsin, working with Jewish American teens. More recently, as part of our partnership program, Ris lead a delegation of Israeli teens to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Back in Israel, Ris has been working to complete a BA in History and Management. Ris has worked as a professional tour guide for the past six years, specializing in the city of Jerusalem. In the IDF, she served as the Deputy Commander of the Education Corps in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City.
Over the next year, Ris will be working with the St. Paul Federation, St. Paul JCC, Talmud Torah of St. Paul, St. Paul synagogues, Hillel at the University of Minnesota, and other Jewish organizations in our community, creating Israel and Partnership 2Gether centered programs to bring Israel to St. Paul.
The shlicha position is funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul and the Jewish Agency for Israel, as well as through monetary and in-kind donations from St. Paul Federation beneficiary agencies and other private donors. The slichim program is committed to strengthening the connection between Diaspora Jews and the State of Israel.
