Angliyada:  A meaningful volunteer experience in Israel

“Angliyada” is a partnership program with Israel funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul, through Partnership 2000. Participants from St. Paul, Milwaukee and Tulsa volunteered for two weeks teaching English to Israelis and new immigrants to Israel, in St. Paul’s partner region near Tiberias.

Angliyada is one of several Partnership 2000 programs that creates personal between residents of Tulsa, St. Paul, Milwaukee and the Sovev-Kinneret region of Israel. Partnership 2000 brings Diaspora Jews and Israeli Jews together to help establish long-term bonds, which lead to understanding and a mutual commitment for a strong, united Jewish future. The Sovev Kinneret region includes some of Israel's most beautiful and celebrated landscapes – the Jordan Valley and Lower Galilee, as well as the bustling city of Tiberias, on the shores of the Kinneret (a.k.a. the Sea of Galilee).

The Angliyada program is aimed at Israeli adults who have studied English grammar but have not had the opportunity to speak English. It is an intensive course taught three hours per day for four weeks. Only English is spoken in the classroom.

Spend two weeks in Tiberias, Israel, teaching English to Israelis through Angliyada, a program of the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul's Partnership 2000. Volunteers will receive free accommodations in Tiberias as well as a stipend* for airfare.

Please note the following:  

• Accomodations will be provided, many meals will be covered. However, volunteers may be responsible for some of their own lunch and dinner costs (up to $25/day). 
• Priority is given to members of the St. Paul area Jewish community

Dates for 2011: Two 2-week sessions in May 2011 (exact dates to be determined).
Dates do not include travel time to and from Israel or trip extensions.
